Cornerback Keith Reaser has come up with the first big injury of Chiefs training camp after leaving the field with a torn Achilles.
The Kansas City Chiefs watched cornerback Keith Reaser go down with a major injury in training camp on Monday and the extent of it was as bad as expected. Reaser will miss the rest of the coming season with a torn Achilles, per a report from head coach Andy Reid.
Reaser was one of the players brought in to help bolster the cornerback position, already the weakest spot on the entire roster. Reaser had looked great in a stint with the Alliance of American Football, and he quickly secured a deal to return back to the Chiefs this offseason after showing off great ball skills in the now-defunct league.
Unfortunately for Reaser, he’s going to have to wait a full year in order to show what he can do on the field. For the Chiefs, this also complicates a picture that is muddy at cornerback. Newly signed free agent Bashaud Breeland has also missed time in camp at the team’s thinnest position.
Kendall Fuller has one of the three main spots locked up with Breeland a good bet to sit outside on a regular basis in another starting role. Charvarius Ward looked good late last season, but D’Montre Wade has also earned time early in camp this summer. Other roster hopefuls include sixth round pick Rashad Fenton, second-year returner Tremon Smith and undrafted cornerback Mark Fields.
The injury to Reaser could mean a roster move is coming to bring further competition at that spot. Reaser was released with an injury settlement last fall and the same could happen again for the 27-year-old cornerback.
