The National Football League continues its countdown of the Top 100 players and Chris Jones has come in at No. 36.
As the National Football League continues to count down its top 100 Players from 2019, a serious honor for players given the fact that it’s voted upon by the players, another member of the Kansas City Chiefs has come in—the third such player overall—at No. 36 in defensive lineman Chris Jones.
Jones is the third player ranked in the NFL’s Top 100 thus far, a list that includes right tackle Mitchell Schwartz (who came in at No. 94) and defensive end Frank Clark (who landed at No. 85). Jones now likely closes the book on Chiefs defenders as the attention near the top of the list will undoubtedly turn to the team’s high-octane offense.
As for Jones, this appearance among the Top 40 players in the league should serve as a feather in his cap, as they say—a talking point (or perhaps a negotiating point) for the defensive anchor as he anticipates a new extension. Jones’ own peers in the NFL believe he’s worth mentioning among the first few dozen players in the game on either side of the ball. That’s a serious leap.
Jones ranked third in the NFL last season with 15.5 sacks, a tremendous number for any player but an elite number from the defensive interior. If not for the shadow of Aaron Donald in the NFL, a player like Jones would have earned a more significant share of the league’s spotlight. Even so, he’s still respected enough to land at No. 36.
Other names on the list likely to come up include quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, and wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
