Here’s all the latest on Mike Daniels‘ free agent tour and what to expect next from the former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman.

If you’re looking for an instant update, the Kansas City Chiefs are still in the running for Mike Daniels.

Unfortunately, the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, and at least four other teams are also reportedly in the picture for the former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman. The latest information about the recently released interior lineman insinuates that his unexpected dip into free agency might take a bit of time as he considers which way to go.

The rumors on Daniels is that he’s seeking to go to a contender—that much is known. What’s also known is that Daniels was due to make upwards of $8.1 million in 2019, so it’s likely safe to say that he’d like to make up that amount of money. He’s also quite familiar with the NFC and specifically the north, so perhaps that will come into play at some point.

As for the teams involved, the Browns struck early and were the first to get Daniels through the door. They also weren’t able to convince him to forget the other teams on his schedule.

The Browns shouldn’t feel bad about watching him leave at this point. He has some solid relationships with front office personnel there who were part of the Green Bay executive group who drafted him in the first place.

In addition, there have been no other confirmed visits on the calendar as of yet, including the Chiefs or Patriots. Both teams, along with Cleveland, were named as potential trade suitors when the Packers were reportedly shopping Daniels in recent weeks. However the lack of a deal for him makes it unclear just how much any of the mentioned teams were willing to pay for him.

Daniels would be a luxury addition for the Chiefs who have greater roster needs elsewhere. Derrick Nnadi, Xavier Williams, Justin Hamilton and Khalen Saunders are all interior linemen for the Chiefs to rotate next to Chris Jones. Daniels might be better than all of them at this point, but for the money and the stunted growth of prospects like Nnadi and Saunders, is it worth it? Hard to say.

Then again for a team contending for a Super Bowl, they say the game is won and lost in the trenches. Adding a performer like Daniels to the mix would give the Chiefs a deeper front than most teams in the NFL and might just be the talent addition to put them over the top on a major defensive overhaul.
