Former NFL great Brett Favre is impressed with both Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield and how they mirror his playing style.

Patrick Mahomes has heard the comparisons before. Baker Mayfield has, too.

Both young quarterbacks have been linked with Brett Favre in the past, as NFL draft analysts tried their best to come up with potential pro comparisons as each readied himself to make the leap from college to pros. Given the big play abilities and strong arms of both signal callers, it made sense to bring up the live arm and incredible playmaking ability of Favre in response.

Since entered the league, those comparisons have only grown stronger. Mahomes was on the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018 after putting on a dazzling display of production, a run that included 50 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards during the regular season campaign. Favre himself won three consecutive MVP awards from 1995 to 1997, so he knows a thing or two about it.

As for Mayfield, the rookie quarterback was given the reins to a desperate franchise in the Cleveland Browns a few games into the season and his natural talents took over. For the first time in a very long time, Browns aren’t expecting the worst coming into a year. In fact, they look poised to take over a position of power from the likes of the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.

When asked recently about Mayfield in an interview in Ohio, Favre brought up Mahomes as well and said both young quarterbacks mimic his playing style well.

"“There’s no question that the sky is the limit for Baker,” Favre said. “And, yeah, I think his style of play, and I’ve heard the same thing about [Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick] Mahomes, and I agree with both, that their styles of play — if you had to pick a former player — would certainly match up to my style.”"

Favre is a living legend himself as an 11-time Pro Bowler with one of the strongest arms in NFL history. He appeared in two Super Bowls, winning one in ’96, and threw 5 touchdowns against a single interception combined on the sport’s biggest stage. Favre also ranks No. 4 on the league’s all-time touchdown list with 508. He’s a three-time first-team All-Pro and two-time second-team as well.
