CBS Sports reporter Chris Trapasso links the Kansas City Chiefs with Stanford cornerback Paulson Adebo as he looks to the 2020 NFL Draft.

Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports is filling much of the offseason with a look far ahead into the future—nearly one full calendar year from now—to see which need every NFL team might end up filling in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

In this exercise, he recently got around to the AFC West and for the Kansas City Chiefs, he makes a connection that should make the majority of Chiefs fans quite happy. He gets them a cornerback. Specifically, Trapasso says a nice defender from the West Coast would do well to settle in the Chiefs secondary.

Stanford cornerback Paulson Adebo is Trapasso’s choice at corner for the Chiefs and he writes the following about his talents and reasons why:

"As a sophomore in 2018, Adebo erupted with 17 pass breakups and four interceptions. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 189 pounds, Adebo has immense length and knows how to use it to his advantage in press coverage and when the ball is arriving. He’s more of a smooth mover than he is twitchy and has good downfield speed."

Steve Spagnuolo certainly loves a long cornerback, and the Chiefs have been missing a true ballhawk at cornerback since they traded away Marcus Peters to the L.A. Rams last offseason. While Steven Nelson quietly had four interceptions last season, no one has been intimidated to throw into the Chiefs pass defense since Peters shut down one half of the field.

With Tyrann Mathieu and Juan Thornhill in place as the team’s dynamic new safety tandem, the secondary is already miles ahead of where it was last year and quarterbacks are going to be that much more wary when facing the Chiefs defense. If the team could also add a young, long corner with a nose for the ball, the tide could really turn in the second year of Spags’ leadership on defense.

This will be an interesting to see if the projected roster holes are as concerning as they seem to be. That, of course, will dictate where the Chiefs will go in the 2020 Draft. But Adebo is a decent bet at a likely position as general manager Brett Veach looks to build a Super Bowl contender.
