The Kansas City Chiefs were one of 16 teams who sent representatives of some kind to check out West Virginia wideout Marcus Simms before the Supplemental Draft.

The 2019 NFL Supplemental Draft will be held next week, and the few prospects who are eligible are doing their best to highlight their skills in scheduled workouts and pro days so that teams can make informed decisions on July 10. One such prospect who had a nice representation of teams at his pro day workout was West Virginia wide receiver Marcus Simms.

Simms was one of the first players to declare for this year’s Supplemental Draft along with Syracuse linebacker Shyheim Cullen.

According to Tony Pauline who runs the site Draft Analyst, there were 16 teams with representation at Simms’ workout on Monday. The Oakland Raiders had the heaviest hitter at the workout as general manager Mike Mayock was in attendance. From there, other teams sent execs like the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings. As for the Kansas City Chiefs, they were among teams who sent a scout at least.

Simms checked in at just under 6’0 and weighed 188 pounds. He also put up a decent range in the 40-yard dash with times of 4.40 to 4.49 seconds. Last year, Simms had 46 catches for 699 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Mountaineers.

The Chiefs already have an impressive array of young wideouts to groom behind Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins on the depth chart, including second round pick Mecole Hardman out of Georgia. The Chiefs also really seem to like Byron Pringle, an undrafted free agent from last season who was injured all year, and newcomers like Jamal Custis and Cody Thompson, both rookie free agents themselves.

Next. Could young WRs make Tyreek expendable?. dark

Still, the depth chart after the team’s top two receivers is pretty unsettled and general manager Brett Veach won’t shy away from adding a player he believes could help just because some other UDFAs are present. It will be interesting to see who expresses the most interest in Simms and submits a future pick for the rights to grab him next week.
