Byron Pringle has been the “buzz” player of the offseason thus far. Here are a few of the quotes about Pringle from the past month or so.

Head Coach Andy Reid (via Chiefswire):

"“Pringle is doing a nice job. He’s a big kid, so his weight’s down. You can tell that he’s worked. He’s catching the ball great. He’s plucking it. Hands, not body stuff. We’ve been real happy with his production. We know he’s a tough kid, we saw that last year in camp. Again, it’s what we can do here in this, but he’s worked in with the ones in a rotational fashion. It’s been good.”"

Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy (via Chiefswire):

"“This kid here, I mean he had some promise last year, and obviously, with him doing the things that he’s done, the kid is doing good so far. Pringle has stepped up, he’s getting a number of reps, and he’s showing what he can do. And that’s important, because first of all, it shows that he’s been paying attention in the classroom. On top of that, he’s taking instruction in the individual periods with coach Greg Lewis and Joe Bleymaier. It is coming out and showing in the team drills.”"

Special Teams Coach Dave Toub (via Chiefswire):

"“We were really high on him last year, and he’s really taken it. He did a great job in his rehab No. 1, and those guys getting him back (did a great job), because he’s really looking good right now. He like took it to another level, so we’re really excited for the way he looks right now.”"

Now, we should all take a second to acknowledge the fact that there have been a lot of offseason superstars over the years—players who earned a lot of hype during OTAs or even training camp who never amounted to anything once the regular season began. That said, the fact that three of the top coaches that Pringle needs to impress in order to make the team have gone out of their way to talk about how good he looks is definitely worth noting. It sounds like Pringle is giving himself a chance to be a contributor at wide receiver this season for the Chiefs.

At this point, we haven’t even mentioned the other starter across from Hill, Sammy Watkins, who is still just 26 years old. His $21 million dollar cap hit and a history of nagging injuries probably make it a long shot that the Chiefs will let him play out his current deal. While cutting him is one option, if Watkins were to have a good season this year, it’s also possible (especially if they consider letting Hill walk) they could extend Watkins after this season and move some money around to get his cap hit for next year down.

Then there are plenty of other young guys like Jamal Curtis, Felton Davis, Rashard Davis, Gehrig Dieter, Davon Grayson, Marcus Kemp, and Cody Thompson that are currently on the roster and will be fighting to prove they belong as well. It’s beginning to look like this could indeed be the deepest group of receivers that the Chiefs have had in a very long time.

Next up, what would the world champs do?
