Week 5 – Indianapolis Colts (Home) – 10/6 @ 7:20 PM Central

There was a big part of me that was nervous for the Chiefs games against the Colts last postseason at Arrowhead. I’ll admit it. Did I believe the Chiefs were the better team with the better quarterback, and that Arrowhead Stadium was a huge advantage? Absolutely. I had no doubt about any of those things. However, years of home playoff losses rang hauntingly in the back of my mind.

Fortunately, as they did the entire season, the Chiefs continued to buck the franchise’s trend of major letdowns. Naturally, the 2019 NFL schedule has fashioned a rematch between the two ascending franchises in what will hopefully be perfect Kansas City fall weather.

The most intriguing matchup will be Patrick Mahomes versus Andrew Luck. Both had fantastic 2018 campaigns and will presumably be back in the running for 2019’s NFL MVP award. The real test will be for Mahomes, as he must show he’s able to maintain his transcendent play from the year before. If he does, which seems more likely than not, the Chiefs should have the edge in this contest.

Another interesting matchup will be the Chiefs’ offensive line versus the Colts’ defensive line. The Chiefs parted ways with long-time sack artist and fan favorite Justin Houston this offseason, and unfortunately he ended up signing with the Colts.

Based on reports, he will transition from linebacker to defensive end and it will be interesting to see if he can stay healthy and be as productive at his new position. Based on his knowledge of Chiefs’ players, Fisher and Schwartz will have their hands full. That said, I think they’re both up to the challenge.

The Colts lead the Chiefs in their all time series with 16 wins to the Chiefs’ 10. However, CG Technology expects the Chiefs to make up ground in 2019 and has them as 4.5-point favorites at home against the Colts.
