Kevin Keitzman’s comments about Andy Reid and his family prompted Union Broadcasting to suspend him for a temporary period.

On Monday afternoon, 810 WHB radio host Kevin Keitzman tried to drive home the point that others have made about the Kansas City Chiefs and their history employing players with questionable character or legal concerns. However, his choice in words separated him from everyone else given how personal he made things with Andy Reid and his family—a choice that’s now cost him the ability to do his job for now.

Union Broadcasting issued a statement on Tuesday explaining they were removing Keitzman for an indefinite period even as they tried to figure out what actions need to be taken next. They also apologized to Chiefs Kingdom and Reid personally for the comments made by Keitzman.

Here’s the full statement:

"We are aware of the controversial comments made by Kevin Kietzman during yesterday’s broadcast of Between the Lines. We have decided to take the immediate step to take Kevin off the air until further notice as we review this matter. We take Kevin’s comments and those of all on-air staff seriously. Kevin’s comments were clearly not to his or our standards. Please know that we will take necessary appropriate actions. We sincerely apologize to Andy Reid and his family, the Kansas City Chiefs organization and our loyal listeners and share their concerns.Union Broadcasting"

Keitzman drew immediate fire on social media for his comments about Andy Reid’s family. The responses came from former players coached by Andy Reid, former personnel who have worked alongside him, and numerous media outlets and NFL analysts—each of whom were vociferous in their support of Reid (and condemnation of Keitzman).

The radio host claims he was misunderstood in the first place, but walked back his words in a subsequent apology offered late Tuesday as he admitted he could understand why his points were taken that way.

Keitzman has been a fixture at 810 in Kansas City for the last two decades as host of the afternoon program Between the Lines.
