The Kansas City Chiefs have added a new tackle to competition at OTAs with the news they’ve signed offensive lineman Chidi Okeke.
The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly signed a new offensive tackle to the roster with the addition of former Washington Redskins lineman Chidi Okeke.
Okeke entered the NFL with the Washington Redskins just last month when he was signed as a rookie free agent out of Tennessee State University following the NFL Draft. At 6’5, 317 lbs., he certainly looks the part of an offensive tackle and now hopes to make an impact with the Chiefs after being cut loose by Washington just six days ago.
Earlier this week, the Redskins decided to cut Okeke loose after signing offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty. The Chiefs apparently liked Okeke enough to bring him in as they seek competition for the backup tackle role.
Okeke was named First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference in 2018 at Tennessee State after transferring over from Louisiana State earlier in his career. The Nigerian native didn’t play football until arriving in the U.S. in 2013 and yet soon became a five-star recruit who landed with the LSU Tigers for his first years in college. He blossomed at Tennessee State and Okeke now has a chance to make an impact at an even higher level while still learning the craft of his position.
Okeke joins a roster with several players already fighting for that swing tackle role in Dino Boyd, Pace Murphy, Ryan Hunter and Justin Senior. Others along the line also have experiencing kicking out to tackle, including Cameron Erving and Andrew Wylie.
