Drew Lock says he was upset when the Kansas City Chiefs selected Patrick Mahomes because he wanted to play for them instead.

Drew Lock’s ultimate NFL dream won’t be coming true anytime soon, if at all, since he won’t be suiting up for the Kansas City Chiefs. That said, he’s more than ready to fulfill the long-held goal of playing professional football, and now he’s ready to turn his passion for the Chiefs into showing them what he could do.

Two years ago, Lock was hoping the Chiefs would avoid going after a future franchise quarterback for just a little bit longer. At the time, Lock was an ascending young quarterback making waves with Missouri in the SEC. If the Chiefs had waited instead of trading up with the Buffalo Bills for Patrick Mahomes, perhaps they would be interested in Lock. Now, instead, it looks like another quarterback needy team will get the chance to watch Lock under center instead.

In a recent interview with Sirius XM radio, Lock discussed his hopes for playing for the Chiefs one day.

“I remember where I was at when they picked Patrick and I was pretty upset,” said Lock. “You know, you grow up liking a team, you wanna go play for them. Like you said, the only thing left to do is hopefully play them and hopefully beat them in Kansas City … It’d be crazy to go back home and play them. That’d be awesome.”

Lock could very well find himself locked into an interesting relationship with the Chiefs as a local product and Missouri alum turned rival quarterback. The Denver Broncos are potentially looking for their future quarterback. The Oakland Raiders are also kicking tires on options. Even the Los Angeles Chargers are interested in insurance for an aging Philip Rivers sometime soon. It wouldn’t surprise anyone to see either of those three teams pull the trigger on a first-round quarterback.

That said, there are also other teams, including the Washington Redskins and New York Giants, who are ready to pounce early on a quarterback and Lock might find himself in a different conference altogether.

Either way, Chiefs fans are very happy with the way things turned out, but that doesn’t mean we’re not excited to see where Lock lands as well. Unless it’s against K.C., we certainly wish him the best of luck.
