The case for drafting Christian Wilkins at 29

Overview

First and foremost, I am not as excited about this pick. While I believe that Spagnuolo’s new defense will call for more strength up front, I don’t think a traditional defensive tackle is necessarily the way to go. That being said, Christian Wilkins would be a great rotational guy that could help plug the middle and stop running backs in their tracks. For a team that has struggled against the run for years, this would make some sense.

Fit with the Chiefs

This is where I struggle a little bit. While Tillery made sense as a guy that could play most downs in the NFL, Wilkins as a Chief would likely just take snaps away from Derrick Nnadi and provide much of the same production, but perhaps a better pass-rusher. There is a fit for the Chiefs if they really like him, but I am not sure how likely that situation would be.
