EDGE: Anthony Nelson – Iowa

I feel like Anthony Nelson is one of the most underrated players in this draft class. How often do you find a 6-foot-7 and 270 pound edge player that is a great pass rusher? He’s relentless. Pro Football Focus credited him with 10 sacks, 14 quarterback hits, and 29 quarterback pressures on the season. He definitely needs to work on his technique and developing some pass rush moves other than just overwhelming tackles with his combo of size/speed/strength, but I love his upside. I don’t know how well he’ll transition inside on passing downs unless he improves his anchor a lot but K.C. wouldn’t be drafting him to play inside but to attack off the edge.

Runner Up: Zach Allen – Boston College

If you were to draw up what defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was looking for in a guy for his defensive front, it would probably end up looking exactly like Zach Allen. Allen is a physical force at 6-foot-4 and 281 pounds and he can play all over the defensive line. Allen harassed quarterbacks in college with a combination of power and relentless effort. Allen may not offer the pure pass rush upside off the edge as Nelson does, but he’s a plug-and-play player along the defensive front with his NFL-ready size and power. His versatility would make him a valuable weapon for the Chiefs new defense.
