Defensive Tackle: Trysten Hill – Central Florida

Trysten Hill is the most recent addition to my draft crush list. I’d seen his name mentioned by other Chiefs fans, and then I saw Nick Jacobs mock him to KC in the third round. I knew I needed to finally get around to watching his tape. I’m really glad that I did.

Hill is a perfect fit for Steve Spagnuolo’s attacking defensive front. Hill is a little bit of a one trick pony at this point but that one trick is a great one. Simply put, Hill is great at getting penetration into the opposing backfield. His quick initial burst combined with his power is one of the best in this draft class.

While he’s not very disciplined and can get knocked off balance and drawn out of position, he would be perfect to pair inside with Chris Jones on passing downs to create pressure up the middle. If the Chiefs wanted an interior defensive lineman to help make up for the lost outside pressure from Dee Ford and Justin Houston, Hill would be an excellent choice and I believe he would quickly become a fan favorite.

Runner Up: Jerry Tillery – Notre Dame

While Jerry Tillery may have finished second to Trysten Hill on my draft crush list, there’s no doubt that Tillery is the more coveted player. You’ll find plenty of other places where you can read up on Tillery’s tremendous upside. In fact, the most common comparison for Tillery is our own Chris Jones. Take just a moment and imagine if K.C. could pair Jones with a player with similar skills and production. Tempting, isn’t it? There’s no doubt the Chiefs would need to spend their first round pick on Tillery if they wanted him (assuming he was even available then). He’d come at a higher price than Hill but there’s no debating his talents.

Next up, my favorite draft crush off the edge.
