The Kansas City Chiefs are ready to kick off their offseason workout programs on Monday, just like most of the NFL’s franchises without new head coaches.

If an NFL team installed a brand new head coach this offseason, then they’ve already got a leg up on the rest of the league on the schedule. Two weeks ago, teams with new head coaches were allowed to start offseason training activities in order to have more time than others to install completely new schemes and to introduce players to new leadership.

As for the Kansas City Chiefs, as Andy Reid heads into his seventh season with the franchise, he’s reporting late like most other NFL teams on Monday, April 15, as the schedule allows. Monday is the first day that players can officially report back and begin to train as a unit according with offseason programs, per the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement.

Offseason workouts will allow the team to check in with injured players and see how rehab is coming along. It can also be important for new veterans to come in and get to know the team’s training staff and facilities and coaches. It’s also going to be a good time for Steve Spagnuolo to start to get his footing around Arrowhead with his players.

In terms of offseason training activities (OTAs), those won’t begin for well over a month. Here’s a rundown of what’s coming this spring for the Chiefs:

April 25-27: NFL Draft begins

First two weekends of May: Chiefs will schedule a rookie minicamp over the course of one of these weekends

May 21-23: First round of OTAs (not mandatory)

May 28-30: Second round of OTAs (not mandatory)

June 4-7: Third round of OTAs (not mandatory)

June 11-13: Veteran minicamp (mandatory)

Mid-July: Veteran players must report 15 days before the Chiefs first preseason game (schedule yet to be announced)
