The Dallas Cowboys released offensive lineman Parker Ehinger from the roster, bringing his tenure with the team to a short-lived, injury-riddled season.

The Dallas Cowboys have officially decided to part ways with former Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Parker Ehinger just one season after trading for him.

The Chiefs and Cowboys pulled off a last second player-for-player swap before active rosters were due last September. Ehinger went from Kansas City to Dallas while the Cowboys sent back cornerback Charvarius Ward. It was a nice trade that filled roster holes for both teams, especially given the health status of some of the Cowboys offensive front. Meanwhile the Chiefs just needed potential at corner after David Amerson failed to make the squad.

Looking back, it’s clear that general manager Brett Veach knew what he was doing. While there’s no way to tell if Ward will be a long-term asset for the Chiefs, the good news is that he looked the part down the stretch. He showed up well when given playing time in December, and he earned praise from Andy Reid as he continued to get better with each week. Ward played a lot of special teams for the Chiefs before graduating above Orlando Scandrick on the depth chart, earning starts at left outside corner opposite Steven Nelson.

Ehinger was the Chiefs fourth round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. It’s possible he could actually return to K.C. if the team is interested in bringing back an experienced interior linemen who knows Andy Reid’s offensive system. Then again, Ehinger was likely sent packing last summer because he wasn’t going to make the team’s final roster. If anything, the Chiefs have both Ehinger and Jeff Allen as experienced and versatile free agent options who know the roster and coaching staff if they desire.

Next. Free agents who could give the Chiefs draft flexibility. dark

Ehinger missed all of last season in Dallas due to a knee injury.
