2019 NFL mock draft: Bengals, Giants trades shake up Top 10
By Grant Tuttle
6. New York Giants
DISCLAIMER: This pick is made with the assumption that the Giants completed a trade with Arizona for Josh Rosen. If that does not happen, Drew Lock or Dwayne Haskins is the pick here. However, with that in mind, I think that the Giants try to jump-start a defensive rebuild with Montez Sweat. While I have many questions about his tape, mainly his bend, I think his athleticism is undeniable. To replace Olivier Vernon, who was traded to the Cleveland Browns, Sweat makes a lot of sense for the Giants.
7. Cincinnati Bengals (TRADE UP from Jacksonville Jaguars)
Here is a trade that I could certainly see coming. Andy Dalton has been a disappointment in Cincinnati. Although the Bengals were among the worst defenses in the NFL a season ago, I believe it is time for a reset. With new head coach Zac Taylor in the fold, it seems likely that he will want to start things off by getting his guy. I happen to think that guy is Drew Lock. The NFL seems to be in love with his upside, but he is a definite “boom-or-bust” player, in my opinion.
8. Detroit Lions
While Detroit could be looking for defensive back help at pick number eight, I don’t believe that they could turn down the best linebacker in the class, Devin White. With great burst and play-recognition, White could provide a much needed spark to the Detroit Lions defense. White could put the Lions defense over the edge, to make them one of the most talented overall units in the NFC.
9. Buffalo Bills
The Bills had a solid defense in 2018, and while they could look to add more firepower to that side of the football, I think it is likely that they add the best offensive tackle in the draft class, Jawaan Taylor. The addition of Taylor may force Dion Dawkins inside to guard, but it would set Buffalo’s offensive line up for success for years to come.
10. Denver Broncos
Dwayne Haskin’s draft stock has seemingly been on a decline every week. That being said, if he is on the board at ten, I would be shocked if Denver didn’t take him. Haskins would have the opportunity to sit behind Joe Flacco and learn the system in Denver. For a guy that has a lot of upside and uncertainty, that would be incredible.
11. Jacksonville Jaguars (From Cincinnati Bengals)
The Jaguars may look for an offensive lineman, but after I have them trading out of the top ten and Jawaan Taylor is off the board, Jacksonville will be looking to add playmakers. For new quarterback Nick Foles, offensive weapons will be a must. In Philadelphia, Foles had several great receivers, the Jaguars will need to add a legitimate passing threat. D.K. Metcalf fits the bill with his mixture of size and speed.
