Allen Bailey

Allen Bailey was a solid player for the Chiefs for a long time. During his eight year career with the team, he played in 61 games, made 207 combined tackles, recorded 34 tackles for loss, with 33 quarterback hits and 19.5 sacks. While he was never an All Pro or even a Pro Bowler, Bailey was a solid and reasonably consistent veteran presence on the line.

In fact, this past season with the team Bailey seemed to turn a corner. He posted career highs in both quarterback hits (10) and sacks (6). Arguably, this is the reason the team did not immediately re-sign him. While these aren’t earth shattering numbers, the free agent market makes medium impact players extremely pricey.

Reports are that the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers have expressed interest. Interestingly enough, the Chiefs also are in contention. Given this public bidding war, I think it’s clear that Bailey is looking for a payday. I expect he goes with the highest bidder, and I doubt this will be the Chiefs.
