Anthony Sherman has already re-signed for another year with the Chiefs. Here are a few others with a chance to return.

Over the last few weeks, scores of NFL player names have come across the NFL’s transaction wire as the free agency frenzy took over the month of March. What is lost in the process is every change of address involved, introducing players all over the NFL to new environs within which they must settle, select schools for their children, find friends and the like.

For some former players for the Kansas City Chiefs, the moves came swiftly. Steven Nelson was packing his bags for Pittsburgh not long after free agency began. Justin Houston eventually settled in Indianapolis. Many others are still waiting, however, with a cloud of uncertainty hanging over their short-term and long-term plans.

Most teams, at this point, have turned their attention fully to the NFL Draft. If a team is even interested in a potential free agent, the player still might have to wait to see how the draft plays out. Let’s take Spencer Ware and the Detroit Lions as an example. He’s already had a visit there, but the Lions might be waiting to see if a running back at the right value comes to them in the draft. If not, Ware is there on the market. But if so, they will have left their options open.

Waiting on both sides is not without risks, obviously, but every team subscribes to this sort of wait-and-see approach when it comes to the draft and evaluating needs once the weekend settles.

While Ware is out the door for certain in Kansas City—thanks to the addition of Carlos Hyde—there are a few players who have hopes to eventually return to the team they played for last season. It might take some time (e.g. after the draft), but these are a few former Chiefs who can hold out hope that they might still suit up at Arrowhead for another season when it’s all said and done.
