Mike Borgonzi represents Kansas City Chiefs at TCU pro day

The Kansas City Chiefs sent their director of player personnel Mike Borgonzi to check out the prospects on display at TCU pro day.
The Kansas City Chiefs were well represented at the pro day for Texas Christian University on Friday with the presence of director of player personnel Mike Borgonzi. Several teams felt the same way about the talent on display and sent some important front office execs to check out the talent at TCU.
For the Chiefs, the likely suspects are found in a defensive front that’s being remade under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The Chiefs have jettisoned Dee Ford and Justin Houston already via trade and release, respectively, and Allen Bailey might also leave via free agency. The Chiefs have signed Alex Okafor to a deal, but needs remain along the entire front line.

Fortunately TCU has a few pro-ready prospects including two along the line of note: Ben Banogu and L.J. Collier. Both players could be drafted by the end of Day 2, depending on how teams view each and their position of need.
Banogu is a versatile pass rusher with 17 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss in the last two years since transferring from Louisiana-Monroe to TCU. At 256 pounds, he’s not the heavy pass rushing end that Spagnuolo is searching for, but he’s undoubtedly a valuable situational pass rusher. Given the loss of reliable pass rushers this offseason, the Chiefs could use an import or two there.
L.J. Collier looks closer to the part of an actual rotational lineman who could compete with Breeland Speaks and Tanoh Kpassagnon for minutes across from Alex Okafor along the defensive line. He had 11.5 tackles for loss and 6 sacks last year for the Horned Frogs. He has the size, at 283 pounds, to play outside, but he can also slide inside to play the 3-technique. That versatility is something Spags will certainly appreciate and use.
Neither player is a first round consideration, but the Chiefs myriad of Day 2 picks could feature a TCU selection among the lot.
