Week 6 of the AAF has come and gone and with it some up and down performances from some former Kansas City Chiefs players

The Alliance of American Football is in the last quarter of its opening season. As the year ramps up toward the playoffs, there are teams that have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. The Orlando Apollos have only lost one game so far this season and hold the best record in the league. Right behind them sits the Birmingham Iron and the San Antonio Commanders with only two losses to their name.

It’s been an exciting first season for the AAF, and it will only get better with the recent addition of former first-round pick Johnny Manziel. While it may be too late in the season for him to save the Memphis Express who have only won one game through Week 6. It will be interesting to see the impact he has going forward and if the crazy things he used to do in college make their way into the AAF.

More from Arrowhead Addict

Manziel never played for the Kansas City Chiefs, even though there was a time before Patrick Mahomes that some people were interested in bringing him in a pairing him with Andy Reid. There is, however, another former Chiefs quarterback that deserves our attention this week and it’s not for the greatest of reasons.

Aaron Murray, QB, Atlanta Legends

Aaron Murray has made this list over the past few weeks, and all of the reasons to this point have been good. This week, however, Murray struggled mightily against the San Antonio Commanders, who took home the win easily this week, 37-6.

San Antonio forced Murray to throw three interceptions in the rout, one of them going to former Chiefs cornerback De’Vante Bausby. This week was easily the worst that Murray has played so far this season, and he will be facing the best team in the AAF next week when the Atlanta Legends host the Orlando Apollos. Hopefully, Murray can rebound and play better with the home field advantage this week.

Bishop Sankey, RB, San Diego Fleet

Most of you probably remember Bishop Sankey from his time in college when he racked up over 2,100 yards from scrimmage his junior year. He was then drafted in the second round by the Tennessee Titans. For whatever reason, his college production never seemed to transfer to the NFL, and the Titans released him during the final roster cuts of the 2016 season. The Chiefs signed him for a whopping 21 days in November of that year.

While he was never able to make an impact for Kansas City, he is starting to creep his way into the AAF slowly. Sankey only has seven carries so far this season for a total of 23 yards. With two of those carries coming in the recent nail biter against the Birmingham Iron.

Sankey is an interesting name to watch going forward even if he does not see the field much this season. He is only 26, and with the exodus of players that will happen once the season is over, he could quickly see his name at the top of the depth chart.

Mike Purcell, DL, Salt Lake Stallions

Mike Purcell is another player that has been talked about quite frequently the past few weeks. That is due to his continued presence on Pro Football Focus “Team of the Week.” Purcell has managed to make the list in three of the past four weeks, the same amount as former Kansas City cornerback Keith Reaser. Purcell does not rack up a whole lot on the stat sheet either; he only logged one tackle this past week.

Instead, Purcell has consistently pushed the pocket and this week was no different. He was able to pressure the quarterback three times and knock down a pass in the team’s win against the Memphis Express. Purcell is only 27-years-old and should have plenty of NFL suitors when the AAF’s inaugural season ends.
