The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing fullback Anthony Sherman back with reports that he’s re-signed a one-year contract.

The Kansas City Chiefs have brought back Anthony Sherman on another one-year deal that will bring back the Pro Bowler for the 2019 season.

General manager Brett Veach has cleared house of a lot of veterans this offseason with the losses of Eric Berry, Justin Houston, Dee Ford, Allen Bailey and more, but Sherman has proven his worth as a reliable vet on special teams and offense over the years. He even made his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2018 and showed off tremendous hands in a surprising offensive display in Orlando’s all-star exhibition.

Sherman’s entire tenure with the Chiefs is an unlikely success story. Former GM John Dorsey flipped cornerback Javier Arenas to the Arizona Cardinals in a player-for-player deal shortly after arriving in K.C. From there, Sherman has not only stuck on the roster but he’s played every single game since the deal was made—an impressive 96 straight regular season games in which he’s scored 4 touchdowns and put up 467 total yards from scrimmage.

Sherman signed a one-year contract last spring with the Chiefs to the tune of $2 million. Terms of this new deal were not available as of press time, but it’s likely to end up around the same amount given the fact that the Chiefs have plenty of leverage and fullbacks in general aren’t exactly breaking the bank elsewhere.

Sherman caught 8 passes for 96 yards last year for the Chiefs. He will turn 31 next December.
