The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly interested in free agent wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who was recently let go from the Oakland Raiders.

Free agent wide receiver Jordy Nelson has no shortage of potential suitors, including the Kansas City Chiefs, if Adam Schefter’s latest report is accurate.

The Chiefs are among several teams interested in the former Oakland Raiders wideout, who was recently let go and allowed to hit the open market. Schefter says Nelson’s first visit will be with the Seattle Seahawks, which gives them a tremendous advantage, but even then the Chiefs face competition for Nelson’s services from the New England Patriots, New York Giants and even the Raiders themselves.

Nelson was recently released by Oakland to create well over $3 million in cap space after he’d signed a two-year, $14.2 million deal last spring. Oakland is clearly interested at a cheaper price, but given the competition, Nelson might be able to squeeze a bit more money out of the market than expected.

Nelson is 33-years-old, but proved last season that he has plenty in the tank. Last year he put up the best catch of his 10 year career (71.6%) as he caught 63 of 88 targets for 739 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. The results were a nice boost from his final year in Green Bay when it looked like he’d hit a wall as injuries and age took their toll.

As for Nelson’s fit in K.C., the Chiefs have lost Chris Conley to the Jacksonville Jaguars already this offseason and the team could use some depth as they look to repeat last year’s strong offensive success. Nelson’s experience and intelligence would be welcome additions to the team as he could create interesting mismatches alongside Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill.

Schefter says Nelson is due in Seattle on Tuesday, so details will be coming out of there first on Nelson’s status.
