The Kansas City Chiefs will host free agent running back Carlos Hyde on Saturday as they explore a potential addition to the offense.

Carlos Hyde is looking for a place to prove his long-term worth. The high-powered offense of the Kansas City Chiefs is certainly a good place to consider. The free agent running back will be visiting the Chiefs on Saturday as he seeks to find a new employer for the 2019 season, per Adam Schefter.

Hyde was free to find a new team after his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday. The last year, in general, has been fairly upside-down for the former Ohio State star, after starting the year with the Cleveland Browns—having signed a three-year deal in free agency—only to be traded for a fifth-round pick to the Jags in October.

Hyde proved to be fairly unproductive in both places in limited roles. The Browns obviously liked Nick Chubb, who came available to them in the second round, and it wasn’t long before he was taking the lion’s share of carries. For the Jaguars, Hyde was little more than insurance for T.J. Yeldon, who is himself a handcuff with Leonard Fournette—a man who only carried the ball 138 times due to injury and suspension.

Last season, Hyde totaled 172 carries for 571 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns, good for an anemic 3.3 yards/carry average. If that sounds uninspiring, it is. There’s no denying it, which is why Hyde is likely going to play on a cheaper, prove-it deal even after landing a three-year, $15 million contract last season.

As for the Chiefs, they already have a productive, versatile back in Damien Williams. Unfortunately, there’s little else of proven worth on the depth chart after him, assuming the Chiefs let Spencer Ware leave in free agency—a man predicted to price himself out of the Chiefs plans. Darrel Williams is present and all potential, while Charcandrick West is likely going to hit the open market.

Hyde, who is 28-years-old, has 827 career rushes for 3,300 yards and 26 touchdowns.
