The Kansas City Chiefs signed former Chicago Bears defensive back Harold Jones-Quartey to a contract on Thursday.

The Kansas City Chiefs have added a new face to the competition in the secondary with the signing of former Chicago Bears defensive back Harold Jones-Quartey, per Brooke Pryor.

At 5’11, 215 lbs., Jones-Quartey is a stout physical player who will be 26-years-old just before the regular season begins. After entering the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent from a small college (Findlay), Jones-Quartey has bounced from roster to roster including the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Philadelphia Eagles.

His longest stint came with the Bears, with whom he spent two seasons and actually started 16 games. Those starts came during a time when the Bears defense was among the most miserable in the league, a unit that Vic Fangio (now head coach of the Denver Broncos) was tasked to turn around, which he did in short order.

In 16 games and 12 starts back in 2016, Jones-Quartey put up his best numbers given the playing time he’d earned. He had 74 total tackles that season to go with 5 passes defended and 1 interception.

Jones-Quartey is likely going to compete with other fringe roster players like Leon McQuay and Dontae Johnson for playing time at safety and special teams alongside favored options like Jordan Lucas, Armani Watts, and Eric Murray. Just last year, the Chiefs rookie of the year was Andrew Wylie, a journeyman guard, so anything is possible, of course.

Jones-Quartey sat out the entire year in 2018 and wasn’t on a roster for not only the regular season but the preseason as well.
