The final draft order has been determined by the National Football League after the league awarded several compensatory picks on Friday.

The official order has been finalized for all seven rounds of the 2019 NFL Draft, and the Kansas City Chiefs look good with eight picks overall in six different rounds, including two apiece in the second and sixth rounds.

The Chiefs, like every team, enter each draft with one pick in each round, but various moves pulled off by general manager Brett Veach over the last year-plus have resulted in some changes to the overall draft order for 2019.

First, Veach traded away the team’s fourth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills in a bit of an experiment that brought over linebacker Reggie Ragland in the first of several steps taken to remake the position inside. Ragland teamed with Kevin Pierre-Louis in his first season before free agent Anthony Hitchens and rookie Ben Niemann joined in 2018.

The Chiefs gained an additional second-round pick in this year’s draft with the trade of Marcus Peters last February. The Chiefs dealt their Pro Bowl cornerback to L.A. in exchange for a fourth-round choice in the 2018 draft, which became safety Armani Watts, and a second rounder in this year’s draft. The pick is at the bottom of the second, but it should still help the Chiefs reload on defense with another young import.

The Chiefs also gained a sixth-round choice via the compensatory program thanks to Bennie Logan signing with the Tennessee Titans. It might be a comp pick, but Veach can also trade that pick if he desires thanks to the NFL’s decision in recent years to make all picks available via trade.

One move even pre-dates Brett Veach with a trade John Dorsey pulled off in the fall of 2016. The Chiefs dealt wide receiver Rod Streater to the San Francisco 49ers—again, just before the 2016 season—in exchange for a swap of seventh-round picks in 2019 if the Chiefs desired to make the switch. Given that the Niners are one of the worst teams in the NFL right now, it was an easy call for Veach to make this year to move up in the seventh.
