The Kansas City Chiefs have been awarded a sixth-round compensatory pick in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft for losing Bennie Logan.
The National Football League finally announced its full slate of compensatory picks for the 2019 NFL Draft and the Kansas City Chiefs came out one pick richer with an extra sixth-round choice that comes in at No. 214 overall.
The Chiefs were one of seven teams to be awarded one additional selection, but eight teams earned multiple picks. The New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams came up big with two third-round picks apiece. New England also tied for the lead with four extra compensatory picks along with the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Redskins.
The Chiefs earned an extra pick after losing defensive tackle Bennie Logan to the Tennessee Titans as a free agent. It might be surprising the Chiefs would win any comp picks after signing several free agents like Anthony Hitchens, Sammy Watkins, Chad Henne, and Damien Williams. However, it’s important to remember the team also lost several including Zach Fulton, Albert Wilson, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Terrance Mitchell, and Logan.
The extra compensatory pick gives the Chiefs a total of 8 picks in the NFL Draft, and the extra sixth-round pick is a nice asset to have for an aggressive general manager like Brett Veach. The Chiefs GM proved willing to move around the draft on multiple occasions to get his man, including trades up to get both of his first two official selections in defensive linemen Breeland Speaks and Derrick Nnadi.
