The NFL Scouting Combine is right around the corner and that means the NFL Draft is soon. What will the first round look like? Here is my first mock.
With the NFL Combine just around the corner, excitement is building for the next wave of football stars to be added to their teams. It also means mock draft season is in full swing as fans anticipate begin to really anticipate the draft.
That being said, pro days and the combine can change a lot. While it may be completely wrong, it is fun to consider the Chiefs options at pick 29.
Here is my first mock draft of 2019.
1. Arizona Cardinals
With the first pick of the 2019 draft, the Arizona Cardinals select Nick Bosa. Bosa has been projected to go number one by almost every draft expert. I cannot disagree. While he spent most of last season out with injury, he was among the most dominant players of the last five years in college football. The Cardinals need help on both sides of the ball, so they will likely take the best player available. I believe that Nick Bosa joins Chandler Jones to make the Cardinals a relevant defensive power in the NFC.
2. New York Giants TRADE UP (From San Francisco)
After the report that the Giants were out on Kyler Murray, only one quarterback makes any sense. While I believe that Murray is the better player, the Giants prefer taller, more traditional quarterbacks. Dwayne Haskins is a good option for the future after sitting a year behind Eli Manning. The Giants will have their new quarterback of the future.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars TRADE UP (From NY Jets)
After the Giants trade up for their guy, the Jaguars have no choice but to move up and select their quarterback, Kyler Murray. Murray possesses excellent arm talent and can make quick adjustments. While some worry about his size and game style transferring to the NFL, Doug Marrone does not have the luxury of being so picky. The Jaguars will move up to get Blake Bortles’ replacement.
4. Oakland Raiders
Due to the quarterbacks being taken back to back, the Raiders have one of the best players in the draft fall into their lap. Williams is the best player in the draft not named Bosa. The Raiders are looking to rebuild under Jon Gruden and will look to take the best player available. Williams instantly makes the Raiders front seven more dangerous. With Mike Mayock and Gruden calling the shots, it makes even more sense.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs are in an interesting spot. With Bruce Arians coming out of retirement to coach Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers, it would make sense that he would want to create every opportunity for the offense to succeed. Jonah Williams would instantly become one of the best offensive linemen on the roster and the team would build pieces around him.
