2019 NFL Draft: Seven-round mock for the Kansas City Chiefs brings safety help

ROUND 5
You may have noticed that the Chiefs have no fourth-round selection, so we moved to round five. It may seem a little disheartening that we still do not have the Chiefs selecting a corner yet, even as we reach the fifth round. I firmly hold the belief that under Spagnuolo’s system, and perhaps a dip into the FA market, the Chiefs can build a solid secondary. One of the more pressing needs, in my opinion, lies within the defensive line and edge rushers. In a 4-3 system, bull-rushing, heavy-hitting edge rushers make or break a game.
Defense needs to be an emphasis for this draft, especially with such lackluster play that led to the Chiefs losing its ticket to the Super Bowl. Edge rushers went quick in the first round, and they continued to be drafted like falling dominoes ever since. One defensive end that could slip through the cracks to the Chiefs is Austin Bryant out of Clemson.
Bryant is an athletic player with decent size. At 6’5, 265 pounds, Bryant has the ability to stand up to any opponent and get to the quarterback in an instant. Learning from the likes of defensive end Chris Jones, he could fit well in the Chiefs’ system. I could definitely see him starting in the future if he is able to stick to fundamentals and work on his technique a bit more. In the National Football League, technique is key. The game is ever-changing, and pass rushers need to be more ready than ever. Lacks in toughness, but that is something that is fixable with time.
