Chiefs vs. Patriots: The 6 most frustrating moments for Kansas City

3. ROUGHING THE BRADY

Another reason the Chiefs lost was because of some phantom roughing the passer call on defensive end Chris Jones. After taking the lead for the first time 21-17, the Chiefs appeared to have forced the Patriots into 3rd-and-7, but then the referees blew the whistle for this:

Chris Jones’ hand merely brushes Tom Brady’s shoulder, yet he was flagged for roughing the passer. Apparently, by these rules, simply touching the quarterback is too violent. Perhaps Chris Jones shouldn’t have bothered rushing at all, as touching Tom Brady is clearly illegal.

Even more maddening is the fact that the same exact thing happened to Patrick Mahomes earlier in the game, but went as a no-call. It’s not hard to walk away feeling cheated after seeing calls like this. If this had been correctly not called, the Chiefs would have been in a position to come up with a huge stop and extend the lead. Instead, the drive ended in a Patriots touchdown to put them up 24-21.
