KANSAS CITY, MO - DECEMBER 25: Defensive end Chris Jones

Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones put out a tweet a year ago telling Chiefs fans that the team will play in the next AFC Championship game. He was right.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones tweeted something to fire up Chiefs fans during last year’s AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Just a couple of weeks after a heart-breaking playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans at home, Jones tweeted during the conference title game “we will be here next year.”

Jones also said in the tweet, “Save this tweet.” So we decided to do just that because as the season went along, it seemed like a realistic possibility.

Fast forward to almost one year later, Jones kept his promise as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31-13 in the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs to advance to the AFC Championship.

The win was Kansas City’s first home postseason win since January 16, 1994, nearly 25 years in the making.

For the first time ever, there will be an AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium. It will be the first time the Chiefs will play in the conference title game since January of 1994.

The Kansas City Chiefs will play host to the winner of the game between the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots, which will be played on Sunday.

Jones finished the season with 15.5 sacks, which is third most in the NFL. Jones also shattered the record for most sacks in consecutive games with 11 straight games. Jones made the 2018 NFL All-Pro second-team and was voted in as a Pro Bowl alternate. If the Chiefs win again, the league might need to look for another alternative, as Jones would be unavailable for the Pro Bowl, preparing for the Super Bowl.
