The Kansas City Chiefs are getting some good news from practice sessions leading up to Saturday’s playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts.

With an extra bye week given to the Kansas City Chiefs as the top seed in the AFC, the team is looking a bit healthier in practice sessions as they prepare to host the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday.

The NFL’s Divisional Round of the postseason is nearing this weekend, and the Chiefs are facing one of the NFL’s hottest teams, a Colts franchise that not only rebounded from a 1-5 start but dominated a Houston Texans team on the road just last week to open the playoffs. The Chiefs, however, should be well rested and healthier than they’ve been in weeks.

Safety Eric Berry and wide receiver Sammy Watkins both returned to practice for the Chiefs, a good sign that both players will be able to play meaningful snaps in this Saturday’s competition.

Watkins has been out with a foot injury since Week 9, an unfortunate injury suffered late in that game against the Cleveland Browns. Watkins tried to stretch out a first down in the fourth quarter and he’s been missing ever since, save for a brief opening series against the L.A. Rams in Week 11. Watkins’ presence alone opens up the Chiefs offense in ways that simply haven’t been there since, despite K.C.’s ability to lead the league in points without Watkins.

As for Berry, the All-Pro safety returned to the field on a “pitch count” for two weeks, the final game of which saw Berry almost play for an entire game. However, he encountered some difficulties and was unable to play in Week 17 against the Oakland Raiders.

Both players represent significant upgrades over their replacements on the field. Watch the injury report the rest of the week for any news on their ability to play on Saturday. For now, there is at least reason to be cautiously optimistic for both.
