Former Chiefs cornerback Jalil Brown hired at Boise State
By Matt Conner
Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Jalil Brown is the newest cornerbacks coach at Boise State.
Jalil Brown is heading to Boise State to coach the position he played for five seasons in the National Football League as the Broncos’ new cornerbacks coach.
Brown was originally a member of the Kansas City Chiefs for two full seasons after Scott Pioli selected him in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Brown was a defensive star at the University of Colorado. Pioli hoped Brown could learn from Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr in a deep secondary while potentially taking over down the road as one or both players neared the end of their rookie deals.

In two seasons in Kansas City, Brown played in 29 games and started 2 of them. He finished his Chiefs career with 33 total tackles, 2 passes defended and 1 forced fumble. He failed to make the team in 2013 before final cuts with John Dorsey at the helm, and he soon found a new home with the Indianapolis Colts. Brown would spend parts of three seasons in Indy, bouncing between the Colts and Miami Dolphins on two separate occasions.
Brown began his coaching career as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Boise State in 2017 before taking over coaching defensive backs for Northern Arizona in 2018. With the NAU Lumberjacks, Brown coached one of the nation’s best passing defenses overall and earned enough buzz as an assistant that Utah State hired him away only to have Boise State come back with a better offer.
Brown replaces Jeff Popovich as the team’s cornerbacks coach, who left for the same position at Georgia Tech.
