The Cincinnati Bengals were rumored to be interested, and Eric Bieniemy is apparently open to the possibility of coaching there as well.
Eric Bieniemy has already completed two interviews to become a head coach for the first time in the National Football League and he’s nearing his fourth such opportunity with word that the Cincinnati Bengals have scheduled an interview on Saturday.
It’s been a busy week for Bieniemy despite the time off for the first round bye, which has created a perfect window for the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator to meet the numerous demands for his time and attention as teams hope to vet him as a head coach.
There are eight such openings around the NFL this winter and Bieniemy has been linked to more than half of them at least in rumors. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have already completed their interview, as have the New York Jets. The Miami Dolphins are interviewing Bieniemy on Friday, while the Arizona Cardinals were dismissed by Bieniemy after they were noted to be interested.
It will be interesting to see if Bieniemy can alleviate any concerns about a lack of experience with only one year as a coordinator at the pro level. He comes from the Andy Reid coaching tree, which certainly works in his favor, and the Chiefs offense looked incredible under his leadership. Then again, how much credit will Bieniemy get for this year’s offense knowing that Andy Reid and others are so involved and that the talent level is what it is?
Stay tuned for more head coaching rumors as teams pare down their lists and work against the clock to find their guy as so many other teams are interested in the same candidates.
