NFL Standings, Week 17: Chiefs finish with AFC’s best record
By Drew Brooks
Week 17 is in the books, and the Kansas City Chiefs finished with the best record in the AFC. Let’s take a look at the rest of the NFL standings.
After 17 weeks of football in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs ended with the best record at 12-4. They shared this with the Los Angeles Chargers but had a tiebreaker over the Chargers to secure the No. 1 playoff spot—something they haven’t done in 21 years.
Behind the Chiefs in the AFC are the New England Patriots, who finished the season with the No. 2 seed at 11-5. The Houston Texans are the No. 3 seed, finishing with a record of 11-5 as well. Locked in at the No. 4 seed are the Baltimore Ravens, who finished 10-6. The Los Angeles Chargers are the No. 5 seed despite having a 12-4 record due to coming behind the Chiefs based on a tiebreaker. To round out the AFC are the Indianapolis Colts who finished with the sixth seed and a 10-6 record.

The Chiefs could be set up revenge tour during the postseason, especially since all four of their losses this season came to playoff teams. Being the top seed, the Chiefs will play the lowest seed remaining after wild-card weekend. Considering the Texans (3) lost their number one wide receiver, Demaryius Thomas, for the season, getting past the Colts (6) will be extremely challenging. If the Colts win, the Chiefs would have the opportunity to get revenge for the 2014 playoff game that Chiefs fans have tried to wipe from their memory.
If the Texans win, the Chiefs will play either the Chargers (5) or the Ravens (4). The Chiefs narrowly beat the Ravens in overtime earlier in the season, and most recently blew a lead and lost to the Chargers. The Chiefs could get a shot at correcting their mistakes if the Texans and Chargers win.
In the championship round, the Chiefs could have a chance to play the Patriots and get revenge for a week 6 loss. Or, they could play the Los Angeles Chargers depending on how wild-card weekend goes. Then, in the Super Bowl the Chiefs could play the Seattle Seahawks or the Los Angeles Rams, both teams they lost to earlier in the season.
