Eric Berry will not play for the Kansas City Chiefs in their regular season finale against the visiting Oakland Raiders.

Eric Berry has been working his way back into the starting line-up for the Kansas City Chiefs for the last two weeks as he returns from nearly two full seasons away from the game. However this week he’s taken a step back in his progress and ultimately he’s been left inactive heading into the Chiefs’ regular season finale.

The Chiefs host the Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon, but they will be without their star safety who has already missed practice this week and seemed in danger of missing the game.

Berry has been dealing with a sore heel all year that has proved too painful to play on, but the last two weeks have brought him back to the starting role—albeit on a pitch count in which his snaps are highly regulated so as to not have this exact sort of issue.

Here is the complete list of inactives for both teams:

Without Berry, the Chiefs will likely rely on the trio of Dan Sorensen, Ron Parker, and Eric Murray to get the job done against the last place Raiders in the team’s quest to put up enough of a defensive effort to beat Oakland. A victory gives the Chiefs home-field advantage throughout the entire postseason and ensures them an AFC West title for the third straight season—something never before accomplished in team history.

The major focus for Berry moving forward will be his health for the postseason, and securing a first-round bye with a victory on Sunday will give Berry two additional weeks to treat and rest his injured heel.
