NFL Draft 2019: Darrell Henderson could solve Chiefs RB woes
By Thomas Welte
Darrell Henderson’s fit with the Chiefs
Enough has been said about Kareem Hunt and his actions that lead to the star players release from Kansas City. While Andy Reid and Brett Veach continue to build the team around Patrick Mahomes, they will need to find a complementary partner for the young superstar in the backfield sooner rather than later.
I am not convinced that Henderson can be an every-down back, but I am also convinced that Henderson is going to be productive in the NFL. The truth is, as a prospect the closest player that I can find to compare to Darrell Henderson is the New Orleans Saints superstar Alvin Kamara.
The similarities are uncanny: both players are undersized, came out of college with a lack of elite traits but exceptional production, neither player had a high volume of touches in college. Henderson had substantially more production while Kamara had more injury concerns, but on tape, the players running styles are even comparable.
While Henderson may not ever be the elite talent that Kamara is in the NFL, it stands reasonably to predict that Henderson can be a productive contributor as a back in a committee. Henderson will likely be a Day 2 pick but could creep into the first round if he tests very well at the NFL Combine.
