Shane Ray’s frustration with Broncos has Chiefs fans talking

Recent comments from Broncos linebacker Shane Ray brought up questions about a potential match with the Chiefs this offseason.

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Shane Ray recently told reporters he was “disgusted” with coach Vance Joseph’s decision to inactivate him for last Saturday’s game against the Browns.

In a locker room interview on Monday, Ray didn’t hide his feelings about the current situation.

"“It’s been a frustrating two years….I don’t control what they (coaches) do. That’s on them. I just do what I do.”"

When asked about how the news of his inactive status was delivered the day before the game instead of earlier in the week, Ray said he thought it was “a little disrespectful.”

There are a couple of reasons why this development is interesting to Chiefs fans. First, Ray grew up in Kansas City and appears to love his hometown so much he put a Chiefs logo tattoo on his back (along with the Royals, Sporting KC, and a picture of the Kansas City skyline).

He was a first-team All-State defensive player for Bishop Meige High School who then became a Missouri Tiger and went on to be a consensus All American and SEC Defensive Player of the Year his junior year. Ray still holds the Mizzou single-season record for sacks with 14.5 in 2014.

The second reason why this seemingly minor story grabbed our attention, as Chiefs fans, is due to the fact that Ray is going to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Everybody knows the Chiefs need more defensive talent, and Ray seems like a player who would be highly interested in coming to Kansas City.

We will see how this story develops. The Broncos will likely keep Ray on their roster, even if he’s inactive, these final two weeks. If they were to cut him, another team could pick Ray up on waivers before the Chiefs. The more likely scenario is Ray joining the Chiefs as a free agent pick up this offseason.
