The Kansas City Chiefs might not miss Kendall Fuller from their defense after all despite dealing with a fractured wrist.
Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Kendall Fuller has a fractured wrist that required surgery shortly after the team’s last-second loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football. Surprisingly, that’s all true and he still might not miss any time.
According to head coach Andy Reid, the team was terming Fuller’s wrist injury as a short-term situation as it was, but after the surgery, it’s possible that Fuller is back to play on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. At the very least it sounds as if Fuller will return to play for the Chiefs in 2018—good news for a team that has significant needs in the secondary.
Fuller’s wrist injury came to light after the Chargers loss and further deflated the mood for Chiefs fans. The Chargers game illustrated very clearly how serious the team’s issues are in the secondary, and the loss of a steady performer like Fuller would only deepen concerns for the team’s ability to defend the pass.
Fuller came over to the Chiefs via an offseason trade with the Washington Redskins last January. The Chiefs traded starting quarterback Alex Smith for a third-round pick and Fuller. It wasn’t too much later before the Chiefs had traded incumbent starter Marcus Peters to the L.A. Rams and Fuller found himself shouldering significant expectations coming into his first season with the Chiefs.
Fuller has started in all 14 games for the Chiefs this season and has 70 total tackles, 12 passes defended and 2 interceptions on the year, including one against Philip Rivers in the team’s most recent loss.
