Kansas City Chiefs: Three teams to avoid in the playoffs
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
This may be a knee-jerk reaction to Thursday night, but I don’t think it is.
The Chiefs had everything going for them. They were under the home lights at Arrowhead, and Eric Berry was making his long-awaited return. Even the first half and more was very one-sided. The Chiefs took a 14-7 lead into the half with 4 sacks on Philip Rivers and two interceptions. After the half, the Chiefs took the opening kickoff and drove to make it 21-7 the two teams swapped touchdowns making it 28-14 with less than 4 minutes left.
This is where the Chiefs imploded. After the Bolts scored, the Chiefs got the ball back with the score set at 28-21, and all they had to do was get a couple first downs. Instead, a 3-and-out gave Rivers just enough time to drive the ball down for a touchdown.
I believe that if the Chiefs play the Chargers again in the playoffs in Arrowhead, they could be fine—especially with the way that the Chiefs defense shut down the Chargers in the first half. With Eric Berry sitting out the second half, the Chiefs floundered. Yet Rivers is having one of his best seasons as a passer and the offense is humming at the right time. I believe that this is the number one team that the Chiefs do not want to see in January.
