Chiefs cornerback Kendall Fuller has surgery on fractured wrist
By Matt Conner
Kendall Fuller, cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs, reportedly will have surgery on a fractured wrist on Friday after playing through it in primetime.
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to deal with an ever-growing injury list, the latest bringing word that cornerback Kendall Fuller has a fractured wrist.
Fuller will have surgery, per Ian Rapoport, on Friday morning to repair the wrist, an injury he actually played through in primetime against the Los Angeles Chargers—a last second loss on a two-point conversion to the visiting team.
Here’s the update per Rapoport:
Fuller was the primary return in a major offseason trade last January in which the Chiefs shipped starting quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins in exchange for a draft pick and Fuller—a bright young cornerback who is still on his rookie deal.
Fuller was brought in as part of a complete overhaul of the cornerback position. Steven Nelson was the lone holdover for a unit that also brought in Orlando Scandrick (after David Amerson flamed out in the preseason) and younger players like sixth-round pick Tremon Smith and Charvarius Ward.
Fuller, who is only 23-years-old, stepped right into a starting role for the Chiefs this year. He’s started 14 games for K.C. in 2018 and has 70 total tackles. He also has 12 passes defended and 2 interceptions.
Without Fuller in the line-up, the Chiefs will be forced to use Tremon Smith in the line-up despite his lack of experience. It might also be interesting to see what free agents the Chiefs bring in for a visit to see who is available and how much they could potentially help down the stretch.
