The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed Charcandrick West after hosting the running back for a visit and workout on Monday along with C.J. Anderson.

The Kansas City Chiefs decided to bring back a familiar face in running back Charcandrick West to help deal with the release of star running back Kareem Hunt. West worked out for the team on Monday in hopes of returning for the first time since the team released him back in August.

The Chiefs hosted West and former Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson for workouts on Monday shortly after trying to move forward with a backfield of Spencer Ware, Damien Williams and Darrel Williams against the Oakland Raiders. It’s unknown whether or not the Chiefs were going to go ahead and add another running back all along, but clearly the Chiefs want to keep a deep stable of talent as well as potential help in case of further losses at the position.

West clearly won out over Anderson and it’s likely due to his familiarity with the offense. At this point, West can be an immediate contributor on special teams, offense and in the locker room where few, if any, introductions will need to be made. West was a bit of a surprise cut in the offseason, losing out to former Dolphins back Damien Williams in a battle for the scatback role on the team. Now they will work together to help bolster the roster after the loss of the league’s leading rusher.

Hunt was released by the Chiefs on Friday after the team had determined he had lied about the role he’d played in an alleged assault back in February.

West played for the Chiefs for four seasons from 2013-17 and ended his tenure with 266 total carries for 999 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns.
