The latest 2019 NFL mock draft is out from The Draft Network and the Kansas City Chiefs pick up some defensive line help from THE Ohio State University.
It feels way too early for any sort of mock draft attention if you’re a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, but over halfway into the regular season means that some fan bases have been looking at the future for quite some time now. While the Chiefs undoubtedly have their eyes on the present Super Bowl hopes, the front office has been busy looking at 2019 and beyond for some time. We’re just now catching up.
The latest mock is out for the 2019 NFL Draft from Jon Ledyard at The Draft Network and the Chiefs are picking dead last. If that’s the case, then even by draft day, most of Chiefs Kingdom will still be hungover after the biggest Super Bowl party that anyone has seen.
With the way the draft has fallen for Ledyard, the Chiefs are unlikely to grab help in the secondary despite the great need there. This offseason, Steven Nelson and Orlando Scandrick are bound to become free agents and safety is a huge question mark as we’ve seen all year. Even if Dan Sorensen and Eric Berry can come back to play in 2018 there are still serious concerns about just how good they will look even if healthy.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, most top-tier talent in the secondary is already taken by the time they select at No. 32, which is why Ledyard has the Chiefs taking Ohio State defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones. Ledyard writes:
"It’s a weak class for linebacker, which could push the team to fortify their front line with the addition of Jones, who has played better for Ohio State this season, but has some technical and strength concerns that are keeping him from reaching his lofty peak."
Jones is a 6’2, 295 lb. lineman who will be 22-years-old when draft day comes around. After registering little production his first two years at Ohio State—with only a single sack and five tackles for loss in 23 games—he’s breaking through in 2018 in a major way. So far this year, Jones has 28 tackles, 10 of them for a loss, to go with 6.5 sacks, 1 interception and 1 forced fumble.
Together with Xavier Williams, Derrick Nnadi and Chris Jones, and depending on how the Chiefs handle Allen Bailey’s looming free agency, the Chiefs could have one of the best d-lines in the game.
