The Kansas City Chiefs practiced Wednesday morning, ahead of its Week 9 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

Injuries are piling up for the Kansas City Chiefs, something that is expected but never welcomed as teams prepare for the bottom half of the regular season.

Several key players were nonparticipants in practice on Wednesday for K.C., some of which haven’t practiced for several weeks.

Those who are not practicing today are center Mitch Morse, safety Eric Berry, linebacker Anthony Hitchens, linebacker Justin Houston, and linebacker Frank Zombo. Perhaps the most alarming name on the injury report is Hitchens, who leads the Chiefs in tackles by a large margin.

Hitchens left the game against the Denver Broncos in Week 8 with a rib injury. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that he was more worried about Zombo’s hamstring injury, so hopefully, Hitchens’ injury isn’t as serious. His injury will more than likely keep him out of Sunday’s game against the Browns, however.

Houston’s listing as a nonparticipant is a little surprising as well. He was initially slated to practice, albeit as a limited participant. The training staff must have decided Houston was not ready to return just yet. Full participants per the injury report from Wednesday’s practice were offensive lineman Cam Erving, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, running back Kareem Hunt, tight end Travis Kelce, linebacker Tanoh Kpassagnon, and guard Andrew Wylie.

None of the full participants are necessarily alarming, but something to definitely watch out for. Being without any of these players would be a huge blow for the Chiefs.

The Browns appear to have a lengthy list of injury woes as well, as the team deals with several injuries to some of their top players. Those who did not practice for the Browns today are defensive back Damarious Randall, wide receiver Rashard Higgins, linebacker Joe Schobert, and center JC Tretter. Limited participants are wide receiver Da’Mari Scott, tight end David Njoku, and defensive back Tavierre Thomas. Running back Duke Johnson, Jr., defensive back E.J. Gaines, and offensive tackle Chris Hubbard were all full participants.

Both teams are plagued with injury, and will likely be out several key starters for their Week 9 matchup. We’ll know more as the week progresses and both teams practice the rest of the week.
