Patrick Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a perfect 5-0 record thus far. Can he lead the Chiefs past the legendary duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick?

This season has been one with that has continually tested the Kansas City Chiefs young signal caller Patrick Mahomes. First was whether he could beat the perennial off season super bowl champions the Los Angeles Chargers. Next he went up against Kansas City’s biggest rival outside the division in the Pittsburgh Steelers. In Week 4 Mahomes went into Mile High and beat the Denver Broncos on Monday night. Then this past week Mahomes faced one of the most talented defenses in the NFL and came out with a 30-14 win. Mahomes has taken these challenges head on and passed with flying colors on his way to leading the Chiefs to a 5-0 start.

The tests are still coming for the second year quarterback, and this week he will be going toe to toe with arguably the best quarterback in NFL history. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have been the cream of the crop in the AFC for years. The Patriots have been to the AFC championship game 12 times since Brady took over the signal caller duties from Drew Bledsoe in 2001. Out of those 12 AFC championship games the Patriots went to seven in a row at one point and won eight of those 12 match ups. To say that the Patriots have had a successful reign is an understatement.

While Brady and company have looked more human than they did in years past. Going against him on Sunday night football in Gillette stadium is arguably the most difficult game on Kansas City’s schedule. After this Sunday things begin to get a bit easier for the Chiefs. Even if they lose, Kansas City will have gotten through the toughest part of their schedule with just one loss.

If the Chiefs manage to continue their dominance and improve to 6-0 they will have tie breakers with almost every super bowl contender in the AFC. Most teams do not get to have that much control over their own destiny in a a season. A win this Sunday would practically guarantee that the Chiefs will hold home field advantage in the post season this year if they continue at their current pace.

Brady will not go down easy though. After losing to the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars in back to back weeks the Patriots have put up 38 points in two consecutive games. What changes were made that allowed the Patriots to have this kind of offensive explosion? Let’s start by taking a look at their off season and in season offensive additions.
