Although many thought it was a mistake to trade Marcus Peters, three Chiefs cornerbacks are doing better right now, according to Pro Football Focus.

This is surprising.

Many fans were stunned when the Kansas City Chiefs traded All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams this past offseason. This gave the Chiefs very little to work with at the cornerback position heading into 2018.

With five games in the books as we are close to being one-third into the 2018 season, Peters is not living up to expectations in Los Angeles. In fact, Pro Football Focus has Peters ranked 106th among 111 qualified cornerbacks.

Here is the kicker: three Chiefs cornerbacks are ranked way above Peters on the list. PFF ranks Orlando Scandrick 37th while Kendall Fuller and Steven Nelson tie for 43rd.

Comparing to the rest of his teammates, three other Rams cornerbacks are rated above him. Aqib Talib, who was also acquired this past offseason, is rated eighth. Nickell Robey-Coleman is ranked 21st while Sam Shields is 28th.

Peters suffered an ankle injury and was carted off during Week 3’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He was diagnosed with a calf strain and was expected to “miss some time” with the Rams.

Surprisingly, the former Chief has not missed any games, playing through the past two games with the injury. Is his injury the cause of him being ranked the sixth worst cornerback in the league?

When asked this week above feeling 100 percent, Peters responded saying he feels “hella good.” Peters also said that Rams head coach Sean McVay would not have allowed him to play if he did not feel good and he “feels 100 percent.”

Peters had a pick six in Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football. It is the only interception he’s had this year.

Yes, Peters has been playing through an injury, despite his claim of being 100 percent. But with five games into the season, no one expected to not only see three Chiefs players above him, but to also see him ranked very low on PFF’s cornerback rankings. We’ll see if this continues as the season goes along.

The Chiefs and Rams will meet on November 19 in Week 11 for Monday Night Football with the possibility of both teams being 10-0 going into this game in Mexico City. Surely, this will be the game most people will use to judge whether or not the Chiefs made the right move in trading Peters away.
