Laurent Duvernay-Tardif injury update: Chiefs guard has fractured fibula
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs suffered several injuries against the Jacksonville Jaguars, including a major loss along the offensive line.
The Kansas City Chiefs have to be temporarily satisfied with a win at home over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, but they will also be dealing with a number of injuries moving forward. Perhaps the biggest loss of the day, injury-wise, is that of Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.
Tardif reportedly fractured his fibula, per head coach Andy Reid, an injury suffered during the Week 5 win. Reid noted he will be able to return this season so it’s not season-ending but it will take considerable time for LDT to return.
The Chiefs have been fairly lucky when it comes to injuries through the first month of the season. Other than the ongoing absence of Eric Berry, the Chiefs have largely enjoyed a healthy roster.
Without Duvernay-Tardif, the Chiefs line will have to adjust after performing quite well for the first quarter of the season. Cam Erving would normally be counted on to step in during such an injury, but Erving has instead become a pillar at left guard. Erving could slide over to allow someone like Jordan Devey or Andrew Wylie to step in if they are better on the left side, but either way, it will take some experimentation by the Chiefs coaches to figure things out.
After starting in 11 games last year, LDT is once again dealing with a severe injury. Here’s hoping he’s able to return for the stretch run or at least the playoffs in order to give the Chiefs the best chance at success moving forward.
