With the Jacksonville Jaguars coming to town on Sunday, we looked back to the last time the two teams met. Here’s what happened.

Let me tell you: There is a major difference between the 2016 Kansas City Chiefs and the 2018 version.

After watching Patrick Mahomes run around and make plays appear out of thin air this year, the previous iteration is painful to watch. Everything was so meticulously planned and executed in 2016 that there was very little room for creativity. What made this game even more painful was that Alex Smith was knocked out with a concussion and Nick Foles started the game.

Foles looked like a backup quarterback throughout this game, a far cry from the quarterback that won Super Bowl MVP in 2017. The offense looked rough, but luckily the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars also played poorly. This is how the game went:

Statline:

Passing:

Jax: Blake Bortles: 22/41, 252 yards, 6.1 avg, 2 TDs, 1 INT

KC: Nick Foles: 20/33,187 yards, 5.7 avg, 1 TD.

Rushing:

Jax: Chris Ivory: 18 carries, 107 yards, 5.9 avg

KC:  Charcandrick West: 13 carries, 39 yards, 3.0 avg

Receiving:

Jax: Marquise Lee: 4 receptions, 84 yards, 21.0 avg

KC: Travis Kelce: 5 receptions, 58 yards, 11.6 avg

This is by far the least exciting Chiefs game that I have reviewed. Foles was bad, the offense was bad, and the Jaguars were bad. One could see this coming right away. The first three drives of the game resulted in punts.

After a good start to the drive, the Chiefs defense forces a stop at midfield. Jaguars punt.

The Chiefs make some good plays but just like the Jaguars is drive one, the Chiefs stall at midfield and are forced to punt.

The Jaguars again sustain a decent drive just to punt the ball away again.

2:16 1st Quarter, 4th and 5 (Watch)

After one conversion the Chiefs have to punt again. However, the Bryan Walters is hit by Daniel Sorensen and DJ Alexander and ultimately fumbles and the Chiefs recover. Players have grown more accustom to Dustin Colquitt’s left-footed kicks. This may be a result of Walters struggling to judge its direction.

1:55 1st Quarter, 2nd and 10 (Watch)

The Chiefs find their easiest points of the day. After a run for no gain by Charcandrick West, Andy Reid calls four vertical routes. With a linebacker lined up to guard Albert Wilson, Nick Foles just has to lob a pass to him. For Foles, this would be the easiest pass of the game and his only touchdown. This would also be Wilson’s easiest route of the game and biggest mismatch. 7-0 Chiefs

1:44 1st Quarter, 1st and 10 (Watch)

When the Jaguars get the ball back they get a huge run from Chris Ivory for a gain of 42. Ivory bounces to the outside and hits the truck stick for Ron Parker. This sets the Jaguars nicely.

14:42 2nd Quarter, 4th and 2 (Watch)

Despite gaining another 1st down, the Chiefs hold them to fourth down and then come up with a huge stop. Bortles rolls left by design, but defenders are not fooled. Bortles saw pressure coming and delivered a decent pass. Unfortunately for Jacksonville, Allen Hurns could not make the grab. Turnover on downs.

Despite good field position, Nick Foles and the offense squander the opportunity. Forced to punt yet again.

12:26 2nd Quarter, 2nd and 10 (Watch)

After an incomplete pass from Bortles due to pressure from Dee Ford, on 2nd & 10, Bortles throws a pick to Ramik Wilson. It’s obvious where Bortles is going with this pass because of where he is looking (or staring.) He does not see Wilson underneath who drifts to where his eyes are and comes away with an easy interception.

Even with incredible field advantage, Nick Foles and the Chiefs are held to a field goal by Cairo Santos. 10-0 Chiefs.

Jaguars get stopped again by the Chiefs defense. Forced to punt.

After two first downs, Nick Foles misses on some passes to open receivers. Chiefs have to punt again.

0:42 2nd Quarter, 2nd and 11 (Watch)

After a long drive, Bortles finds Marquise Lee over the middle. Marcus Peters initially has Lee well covered, but gives him a little too much cushion out of his break. This results in a big play for the Jaguars. Adding insult to injury, Daniel Sorensen puts his shoulder into Lee after he was already out of bounds resulting in a late hit penalty.

0:07 2nd Quarter, 3rd and Goal (Watch)

After a stop on 3rd down, Steven Nelson gets called for pass interference and the Jaguars get another shot. After the defense stood at the one yard line on 1st and 2nd down, Bortles finally gets in a TD pass to Allen Robinson. While the zone coverage is initially good, Bortles is allowed to stand in the pocket and Ron Parker loses track of where Robinson goes. Robinson slips behind Parker for the touchdown. 10-7 Chiefs

Squib kick to the Chiefs. End of the first half.
