Eric Berry injury update: Chiefs star safety making good progress
By Jalon Dodson
Some rather good news surfaced from the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday afternoon, giving hope to Chiefs fans.
Kansas City Chiefs star safety Eric Berry has not practiced since August 11, which will be coming on eight weeks ago on Saturday. Berry had been dealing with a sore heel, but we finally had gotten more information on the injury. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo recently reported on Good Morning Football that Berry was suffering from Haglund’s deformity, a bone spur that digs into the heel.
This disheartening news undoubtedly caused panic among Chiefs fans. Hope for Berry returning to the field this season started to diminish as more questions arose to his status and the extent of his injury. While we have not received a definitive word on whether or not he will be able to play soon, we did receive some good news on Thursday.
Berry arrived in practice and was jogging alongside his teammates. The post went on to say that, while not practicing, he did complete some warmups. While this news is not 100 percent clear on his status, it appears Chiefs fans can start to rest a little easier. It appears to me that Berry is poised for a debut soon and that we can take Andy Reid at his word that he is improving.
As the season progresses, we will hopefully get more information regarding Berry and the status of his injury. He will not practice at all this week and as such will more than likely be listed as ‘doubtful’ ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
There is a minuscule chance that Berry practices next week, even if it’s in a limited fashion, but it’s refreshing to say that there’s a chance, even if it’s slim. Overall, it appears Berry is making good progress toward coming back to playing for the Chiefs.
