The Kansas City Chiefs offense was slowed down for most of the Monday night game against the Denver Broncos defense. What exactly did they do?

The Kansas City Chiefs offense has been one of the most explosive offenses in the league through the first quarter of the season. Putting up Madden-like numbers while young quarterback Patrick Mahomes cleared records, the offense looked like it couldn’t be slowed down. That is until they traveled to play the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.

While I’m not taking away anything from Patrick Mahomes in his first three games, this game was something of a real test. Winning in Pittsburgh was a significant step forward for Kansas City, but playing in Denver on Monday Night Football with the crowd as amped up as it was, and playing a team that’s already played you before despite whether it mattered or not. We saw this offense get slowed down by the Denver Broncos defense, which is likely the best defense that the Chiefs have played to this point in the season.

Denver was ready as they slowed down the Chiefs offense for the first three-quarters of the game. Until the fourth quarter when Kansas City was down by ten points, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs passing attack struggled to get much of anything going.

While Denver was able to hold the Chiefs to under 35 points for the first time this season, it wasn’t enough to come away with the win. It’s still something to look at when the offense wasn’t as explosive for most of the game. What did Denver do that slowed down one of the most electric offenses in the league?
